The U.S. Navy's E-2/C-2 program has selected Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP), a global provider of end-to-end Internet business solutions, as its provider of on-demand and live video streaming services. Using Internap’s content delivery network (CDN), the Navy leveraged Internet delivery to unveil its newest aircraft to aerospace, defense, media and government personnel worldwide. The event debuted the latest version of the Navy’s E-2 Hawkeye, the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, an all-weather, tactical Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft that is manufactured by Northrop Grumman.

Internap’s Streaming Service for Windows Media tied into video production systems to transmit both live and on-demand audio and video. The streaming media solution met the Navy’s rigorous security requirements and provided a smooth end-user viewing experience. Following the event, the content was archived on Internap’s server, allowing viewers to replay the event at any time.
“The program milestones of this spring and summer were augmented by the ability to simultaneously share these events with a live link to not only the Hawkeye community, but all those interested in the Advanced Hawkeye, the future backbone of the network-centric Navy’s carrier strike group,” said Capt. Randy Mahr, NAVAIR Hawkeye program manger.
Internap offers the industry’s only CDN that uses intelligent routing in each point of presence (PoP) to improve the performance of Internet traffic, including dynamic applications such as streaming audio and video. Internap’s proprietary Managed Internet Routing OptimizerTM software (MIRO), which is integrated into its global Super PoPs, routes the content in a manner that allows faster, more reliable delivery than conventional Internet technology. By addressing the inherent weaknesses of the Internet, such as latency and packetloss, MIRO allows Internap’s customers to take full advantage of deploying applications online.
“Internap has established a global architecture designed to reliably and securely speed rich media content over the Internet to viewers worldwide,” said James P. DeBlasio, president and chief executive officer of Internap. “With the support of our award-winning technical team and in this case, our Washington, D.C. office, Internap is managing mission-critical Internet business initiatives for customers across a variety of sectors. We’re pleased that the Navy trusted Internap to create a scalable solution to meet its needs and look forward to streaming the next commemorative event.”
