General Dynamics to Support White House Communications Agency

FAIRFAX, Va., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics , has been awarded a $7 million follow-on contract to support the White House Communications Agency (WHCA) Technology Installation program.

Using a Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) backbone for external connections, General Dynamics will support the complete transition to Internet Protocol (IP)-based infrastructure for all communication. The U.S. Army Information Systems Engineering Command is the contracting authority for this one-year contract. Under a previous contract, General Dynamics evaluated the WHCA's communications systems and facility support infrastructure.

"The communications capabilities for the White House must sustain critical day-to-day and crisis operations communications without fail," said Zannie Smith, senior vice president of Army Solutions for General Dynamics Information Technology. "General Dynamics is proud to support the communications of our legislative and executive branches, both in the Senate and the White House. We are honored to be selected by the White House to continue providing telecommunications expertise and support to modernize and maintain the White House communications infrastructure."

The WHCA is responsible for providing communications systems that enable the president and the presidential staff to lead the nation efficiently. The agency supplies worldwide audiovisual, voice and data communications support for the president, vice president, presidential emissaries, White House staff, the U.S. Secret Service and others as directed by the White House Military Office. WHCA supports the president at the White House and in the Washington metropolitan area. In addition, it deploys teams worldwide to support presidential travel missions.
