Evernote, the multi-platform application that allows users to remember every notable aspect of their lives, today announced the availability of a significant update to its application for iPhone and iPod touch: Evernote version 3.0. Taking full advantage of the latest iPhone OS 3.0 software update, the app has been redesigned and optimized for easier note creation, faster browsing and more intuitive search.
Evernote lets iPhone users create notes, take snapshots, record audio memos, and search through any content created on their iPhone or iPod touch, desktop computer, or the Web, thanks to its cloud-based sync functionality.
New in Evernote 3.0
Evernote 3.0 contains a number of major enhancements made possible by the latest iPhone software update. New features include:
-- Full note list sync enables smooth browsing and quick filtering
-- Map view plots notes on a map based on their creation location
-- Pending notes can be edited or deleted while they sync
-- Notes can be grouped by date, notebooks or geographic location
-- Simplified snapshot and voice note creation
-- Major redesigns to note list interfaces
-- More intuitive Advanced Search options
-- Support for integration with other iPhone applications
"Evernote 3.0 is a big jump for our App Store application," said Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote. "Capturing and finding notes is now infinitely more intuitive. I look forward to seeing how our users will react to this update, especially those with the new iPhone 3G S, which is the perfect device for Evernote thanks to its improved camera."
The new functionality in Evernote 3.0 was achievable thanks to technologies made available in the iPhone 3.0 software, such as the iPhone Clipboard, MapKit, CoreData and others. The iPhone Clipboard allows for advanced integrations between Evernote and other iPhone applications. MapKit was used to create the new Map View, which plots notes on a map and filters them based on map zoom level. CoreData allows the application to display a smooth-scrolling list of thumbnails for tens, hundreds, or thousands of notes without requiring the user to reload the page.
In addition to providing enhanced functionality on the iPhone and iPod touch, the new capabilities in the iPhone OS 3.0 software make it easier to share code between the iPhone and Mac OS/X versions of Evernote. This allows both the mobile and desktop software to be developed more quickly and economically.
Evernote is available for free from Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/
Evernote 3.0 is compatible with all iPhone and iPod touch models running the 3.0 firmware.
