Mayor of Bodrum Mehmet Kocadon Should Just Hang Himself

Mayor of Bodrum Mehmet Kocadon Needs to Get His Act Together. Every year gulet (wooden yachts) owners and Bodrum's "blue voyage" tourism industry bring tens of thousands of tourists to Aquarium and other local spots by boat. And every year tourists enjoy the same garbage and litter mountains which were left behind by animals (I can't call them human beings) on the shore.

Ted Weissman and Lois Paul & Partners PR Firm

I just read SYS-CON's response to the recent attacks in Fuat Kircaali's Social Media Terrorists blog entry. I realized the email quoted at the end of Kircaali's blog was also copied to Ted Weissman of Lois Paul & Partners, a public relations firm with clients in technology.

If this email was sent to SYS-CON based on Weissman's advice to his client, then, in my humble opinion, Ted Weissman and his firm are not qualified to operate as a PR agency to serve technology markets and provide advice to any technology client until they sort out their facts from the Twitter mob fiction.

After reading Kircaali's response, it sounds like this pr man is getting his news from Twitter feeds of Al Jazeera instead of reading the facts in a magazine such as Forbes before advising his clients about the "documented questionable business practices" of one of the most respected tech media companies in the world.

My question is "Is this man in the business of providing public relations or creating public relations disasters for his clients?"

Did Bill O'Reilly and Fox News Contribute to Dr. Tiller's Murder?

Sony Trademarks the Term ‘PS Cloud’

Sony apparently has cloud intentions. Sony Computer Entertainment has asked the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a trademark on the term “PS Cloud.” It’s also reportedly registered the domain name “playstationcloud.com.” The broad trademark application, filed March 24 and annoyingly written in all caps, doesn’t say exactly what Sony’s got in mind for the brand but covers a wide range of cloud possibilities from “providing online video games that users may access through the Internet” to streaming music over the net, producing Internet radio programs, displaying online media such as electronic magazines, books and educational materials – and Sony does have that Kindle-like Sony Reader e-book – as well as video on-demand and e-mail. And it mentions phones a lot.

GoGrid CEO to Present at SYS-CON's Cloud Computing Conference & Expo, November 19-21, San Jose, CA

Software as a Service (SaaS) is a way to deliver software and services on-demand from the web and by subscription rather than a one-time upfront cost. SaaS is truly changing the way people access services and software, and is rapidly moving software applications completely online. At the same time, the complex server infrastructure needed to support SaaS is beginning to move to the Cloud. This session will discuss how SaaS allows for environments to be created, managed and deployed with minimal effort and time, and how new cloud computing offerings can improve deliverability capabilities, scalability and better match the SaaS subscription model with utility-based billing for hosting infrastructure.

Taking Virtualization to the Next Level: The Virtualized Data Center Audience

Today, it is not uncommon to narrow the general definition of virtualization down to just servers or possibly servers and storage. In this session learn how a total virtualization solution should encompass a much larger range of capabilities and entities. The ultimate goal of virtualization is to increase the utilization and efficiency of your current infrastructure. To that end, one should consider virtualizing the entire data center, including the traditional servers and storage, but also bringing in networking, cable management, power management, cooling/airflow capabilities, etc. This allows for extreme flexibility and agility in terms of managing the infrastructure to the point of being able to roll in and out entire racks of equipment without needing an electrician to add power outlets, without adjusting tile placement for airflow, without pulling extra cable runs, etc ... basically roll it in, plug it in, connect the network/FC cables, power up and go, all within 30-45 minutes. Additionally, efficiency and power savings are very critical in the design and architecture phases, making sure to provide as much power to the IT equipment and as little to the supporting infrastructure as possible. By utilizing a management framework based upon ITIL, and having the proper expertise with ISV applications, security, H/A and BC/DR, one can manage these new capabilities with greater ease and better cost control.

Where We Are and Where We Need to Be With SOA?

The success of SOA runs two ways. SOA serves as the catalyst for organizational change, yet an organization must be ready to embrace these new dimensions opened up by SOA. The latest survey data shows most organizations are just starting on their SOA journeys. Why do enterprises set out to build a Service Oriented Architecture, but end up with a 'Service Averse Architecture'? There are many promises being made about the potential of SOA these days, followed by disillusionment as these promises don't pan out. However, SOA is more than a single IT project or even a series of implementations. Rather, SOA represents a long-term change in thinking and management of all aspects of the enterprise. SOA not only decomposes technology into loosely coupled systems, but also decomposes organizations into 'loosely coupled businesses.' This session will look at the latest survey data on ways organizations are embracing service oriented architecture, and how far along the road most are from full-functioning SOA.

Beyond Virtual Machines: What's Next for Virtualization?

Virtualization has taken hold in the data center, addressing some of the most pressing issues customers face including excessive power and cooling, and low server utilization. But this is only the first wave of virtualization and only addresses the server. What's next? Enter 'Virtualization 2.0,' where the benefits extend from capital cost reduction to lower operational expenses, improved service levels, agility and IT simplicity. This next wave virtualizes beyond the server, encompassing data center infrastructure (storage, networking and processing) to unbind applications from servers and create a fully agile data center. This session explores Virtualization 2.0 and what it will mean for bottom line business.

I/O Virtualization: Approaches and Applications

I/O is a key element of server architecture, but its virtualization is only now starting to be addressed. Without I/O virtualization, the amount, type and physical connectivity of server I/O are all fixed. In order to achieve true flexibility in server usage, these fixed resources must become dynamic. This enables an on-demand usage model for non-virtualized servers, including failover with shared spares, and server pool scaling. It is also an important complement to virtual machine technology, providing flexible dedicated I/O pipes for virtual machines. This presentation will compare different approaches to I/O virtualization and discuss the applications of the technology.

SOA World Conference - "Making Sense of the BPM"

What is BPEL? What is XPDL? How are they different? What is the best use for each? What is BPMN, and why should I care? Which of these are primarily designed to help IT at a technical level, and which help an organization at a business level? Amongst the flurry of BPM and Web services standards that appear to overlap at times, there is a central core of important ones. This session, led by Keith Swenson, Fujitsu's Chief Architect and Co-Chair of the Workflow Management Coalition Technical Committee (WfMC), is aimed at lending clarity to the fuzzy world of BPM and Web services standards and at explaining the benefits of investing in standards-driven solutions.

SOA Management Fundamentals and Best Practices

Development of service-oriented environments is an evolutionary process for organizations of all sizes. The architecture and design decisions made by system architects and developers will impact manageability and flexibility of service infrastructures. Efficient management of loosely-coupled services requires implementing practices to enable visibility, flexibility and automation of service operations. Questions to be answered in this session: What architectures are common for service deployment and integration? How can services be built for manageablility? Why is operational visibility essential for SOA management? How does SOA Management fit into SOA Governance?

The activity and interest around virtualization in '07 including the VMware IPO and Citrix acquisition of XenSource is indicative of the importance of virtualization as the leading technology of the 21st century. At a time when the market was headed decidedly south, the VMware IPO emerged as a star. The timing of the Citrix acquisition of XenSource was impeccable. These two events showcase enterprise interest in virtualization.

Eliminating the 'Software Tax' by Using ODF

Just as we have become dependent on oil as an energy resource, we have also become dependent on a single vendor solution for saving our digital history - in the form of our word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet documents. Last year, it was estimated that more than 90 percent of the office productivity suite market was controlled by one vendor, and, historically, because of this dominance, consumers, businesses small and large, and governments have been left with few viable options.

What Is ColdFusion in the Age of Java?

As CFML developers start to learn Java and move into the realm of Spring and Hibernate, it is very important to stop and ask 'What Is ColdFusion?'. ColdFusion, since CFMX, has been a J2EE application running within a J2EE server (JRun, JBoss, Tomcat, Websphere, etc.). This is important because thinking of ColdFusion like this lets us expand our mind to what we can really do with ColdFusion. We (CFML developers) can start to leverage J2EE services and frameworks like JPA, JNDI, JTA, and others to make ColdFusion a real player in the J2EE stack.

That makes two renegades brought to justice. Monsoon Multimedia, the first company SFLC sued on behalf of Busybox' creators, also settled. And a few days ago SFLC sued Verizon Communications, the phone company, for patent infringement because it's not publishing the source code for the Busybox widgetry embedded in the Actiontec router it distributes connecting customers to the Internet, TV and phone. Verizon has maybe nine million FiOS customers.
